Making the most out of a small bedroom

If you don’t have the luxury of space in your bedroom then ensuring you are making the most of the room you do have is key.

You don’t want to be sacrificing the size of your bed to create extra space in the room, after all it is called a BEDroom.

Most double beds are 4ft 6in wide, which for two adults is not an adequate space to have a good night’s sleep without disturbing the other person.

If you can fit in a king size bed this will lead to better sleep and won’t take up to much more space in the bedroom.

As for storage, the space underneath the bed is a great place to keep boxes with your clothes ready for the summer, which will free up plenty of wardrobe space.

There are a number of manufacturers that make sliding drawer units that can utilise the 42 square feet found under your average king size beds.

Of course, a well organised wardrobe is important to create space elsewhere in the room.

The thing to get right here is hanging space, as it’s far more difficult to add rods than it is to fit new drawers.

Avoid putting bulky coats and jackets in the hanging space of your wardrobe, as these can be placed elsewhere in the home on hooks.

Pull out storage is another great way to maximise the space in your bedroom.

These units can hold a number of items from shirts to shoes and can be made to blend in to the rest of the room.

It’s important to use the whole height of the bedroom for storage, as many rooms neglect the top quarter of the room.

Tall wardrobes and shelves that go right up to the ceiling will mean that this useful space will not be wasted and you can enjoy the extra space it creates around the bedroom.
