This house was built for a couple of designers, interior designer Simo Heikkilä and his wife who both needed a work space and a gallery to store many of their furniture prototypes. The building is located on a hillside ending in Päijäne (Finland ) lake, forming a part of a beautiful Nordic landscape.
The house has a rectangular shape and there is a sharp contrast between the facade (dark with few windows ) and the opposite , which is lighter and has big holes overlooking the lake. In the exterior view of the building the dark facade looks like a continuation of the roof. The bedroom, bathroom , toilet and kitchen occupy the entire lower gallery space which is accessed by a staircase from the workshop.
The interior finish is defined by a polished concrete floor, light wood walls and it is painted in different colors.
